Events after the reporting date
In April 2022, the country experienced severe weather conditions and events which resulted in significant damage, loss of lives, homes,
and possessions by hundreds of families and individuals in various provinces. Government subsequently declared the National State of
Disaster in terms of Section 27 (1) of the Disaster Management Act of 2002, (Act No. 57 of 2002). As pronounced by the President, the
government’s response to this disaster was to follow a phased approach. The first phase will focus on immediate humanitarian relief,
the second phase on stabilisation and recovery, and the third phase on reconstruction and rehabilitation. The Department is providing
humanitarian relief to victims of the damages caused by these severe weather conditions.
